Homework:
Mon 4/27 - individualized homework (What's Going On Here OR Calculations OR Textbook reading)
Tue 4/28 - no homework
Wed 4/29 - finish Density writing assignment
Thurs 4/30 - no homework
Fri 5/1 - no homework
As we being a new week we will actually be finishing up an old activity. Monday is the last day of our differentiated density investigation where students are performing experiments in order to answer the question "why do some things sink and other things float?" with the most accurate and robust model possible. On Tuesday we will come back together as a whole class to finish up one last experiment together and then discuss what we've learned. On Wednesday the students will be creating their own textbook section to write down everything they've learned about density. Thursday of this week will be our first experiment on our new topic - solids, liquids, and gases. Students will visit different stations in order to "build a definition" for each state of matter. Friday we will discuss what we learned, take notes, watch a video, and apply this knowledge.

After finishing up our Biology unit last week we began our last unit of the year - Chemistry! Chemistry is the study of matter's properties and how matter changes. And, that's exactly what we'll be studying! First, we began with learning about some of matter's properties: volume and mass. We learned last week what these are and how to find them. We will be needing that background information as we work this week to answer on question: Why do some objects sink while other objects float?
Why this may seem like a simple question, the answer is actually very complex. To answer this question students will be completing a number of differentiated activities throughout the week. Everyone will start with the same activity and then branch out from there, each completing different labs, readings, and investigations that will help them develop their knowledge at their own level and pace. Because of this, there will not be a "one size fits all" homework assignment to complete this week, but students will be responsible for completing homework individually assigned to them by their teacher, in order for them to review and extend what they are learning in class. Homework: Mon 4/20-Th 4/23: individually assigned as necessary. (see above) Fri 4/24 - No School! We've got our big biology test this week Tuesday! Monday will be a review day in which we will check over the review sheet, answer questions, discuss the test, and play a review game. On Wednesday we will be starting our new unit - Chemistry. This will be our last unit of the year, if you can believe it! We will start out by taking a preassessment about matter and then develop a definition of matter. Thursday we will do an activity to help us practice measuring matter and on Friday we will review all this information along with take notes about what we have learned.
Homework: Mon 4/13 - study for test!! Tue 4/14 - test, no homework Wed 4/15 - corrections due Friday Thurs 4/16 - corrections Fri 4/17 - no homework This is our LAST week in our Biology unit! We will be finishing up photosynthesis and cellular respiration during this week and then having a test next week Tuesday, April 14. Here's the breakdown for the week:
On Monday the students will finish up the Exchange with the Environment part III activity and use the iPads to "see" water and carbon dioxide coming into plants. We will use an online animation, a video, and an infographic to get a basic introduction to photosynthesis. On Tuesday we will go into more depth and use an animation and modeling with beads to learn the net equation for photosynthesis. Wednesday we will connect photosynthesis to another important process that occurs in plants and animals - cellular respiration. We will investigate this, and related, processes on Thursday though a "pick-a-lab" experiment. Friday we will finish our experiments and get started working on the review sheet! Homework: Mon 4/6 - no homework Tue 4/7 - RAFT writing assignment (photosynthesis) Wed 4/8 - connecting photosynthesis to cellular respiration - both sides! Thurs 4/ 9 - no homework Fri 4/10 - finish review sheet |
